Postdoctoral Position in Materials Chemistry [ORNL08-52-CSMD]
Computational Sciences and Mathematics Division Oak Ridge National Laboratory Oak Ridge, Tennessee ORNL08-52-CSMD Project Description: This position is to work with the Materials Chemistry research group at Oak Ridge National Laboratory on the specific aims of the current working proposal. The work will be in collaboration with ORNL?s Computational Chemical Sciences Group. The applicant should have interest in working on theoretical problems in the broad area of condensed matter and solid state chemistry. While theoretical in nature, the candidate should also have considerable interest in working with experimentalists involved in studies involving molecular adsorption and confinement at surfaces and interfaces. The position requires a Ph.D. in theoretical solid state physics or physical chemistry with experience in modern computational modeling, including ab initio, quantum MC, and density functional methods. The applicant should also have a good understanding of parallel computing and some experience with code development. Initial research projects will include examination of the structure and dynamics of absorbate (alkanes) - surface (MgO) structures and comparison to experimental inelastic neutron scattering data.
